About Harrow Park (formerly Flambards)
Harrow Park, formerly known as Flambards, is a Grade II listed historic park and garden located in Harrow on the Hill, Greater London. The estate's origins trace back to the 14th century, with significant developments occurring in the 18th century. Between 1768 and 1771, renowned landscape architect Lancelot 'Capability' Brown, along with architect Henry Holland, undertook extensive improvements to both the house and its surrounding landscape. The park encompasses approximately 15 hectares and features mature oak trees and a lake, elements that are believed to date from Brown's original landscaping efforts. The terrain descends steeply from the west, with the lake situated in the lowest part near the eastern boundary. In the late 19th century, the gardens around the house were remodeled, introducing a grassed terrace off the east front of the house, offering views across the park, and a formal rose garden below. In 1831, Harrow School acquired the estate, and it has since been utilized for recreational and sports purposes, including a private golf course. The park is part of the Harrow on the Hill Village and Harrow Park conservation areas and contains a locally listed Victorian folly. As of January 2026, Harrow Park remains under the ownership of Harrow School and continues to serve as a venue for sports and recreational activities.
