About High Royds Hospital
Highclere Castle Gardens in Berkshire surround the famous castle that served as the filming location for Downton Abbey. The parkland spans approximately 1,000 acres and was significantly influenced by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown, who was commissioned in 1771 to redesign the estate's grounds. Brown transformed them into a picturesque landscape that harmoniously blends natural beauty with artistic design. The parkland features rolling lawns, strategically placed trees, and serene vistas. Several 18th-century follies add architectural interest, including Jackdaw's Castle on the east lawns, the Etruscan Temple on Siddown Hill, and the Temple of Diana overlooking the lake. Closer to the castle, visitors can explore the Monk's Garden dating back to the 13th century, the White Border Garden with white roses and clematis, the Secret Garden with curving borders, and the Wood of Goodwill woodland area.
